FAQs

Why should I use a drone service? I already have a drone. Can’t I just do it myself?

While recreational flying does not require a license, any flights taken for commercial purposes fall under US CFR 14 Part 107, which requires all drone operators to be trained and licensed according to Federal Aviation Administration standards. Commercial flights are considered to be ANY flight taken for the purpose of financial gain. This could include photos taken for real estate listings or a business website.

What do licensed drone operators need to learn to get FAA certified?

To pass the written FAA certification test, drone pilots are taught a wide variety of aviation topics, including weather patterns and how they can impact an aircraft, aeronautical physics, how to read topographical maps and aviation charts, how to read and interpret METAR reports and NOTAMs, and aviation accident prevention. In addition, all Part 107 holders can obtain Air Traffic Control Clearances and FAA Waivers if needed. This is why it is always recommended to use an FAA-licensed drone operator to ensure safety and legal compliance.

Does my flight require ATC Clearance or FAA Waivers?

Possibly. If your flight takes place within 5 nautical miles of an airport, requires the aircraft to exceed an altitude of 400ft, or requires the aircraft to be flown over large crowds of people, there is a chance ATC/FAA authorization will be required. Our team will determine if this is the case and will work with you to come up with a proper flight plan and accident prevention plan. We will also coordinate with the FAA and Air Traffic Control as needed to obtain the proper authorizations.

Are you insured?

Yes. All standard flights carry $500k in liability insurance, but for more complex and higher-risk flight missions, we can increase the coverage depending on the situation and your needs.
